Sharing Each Other's Pain

Sambari Hial , a 70 year old woman from Girligumma village inDasmantpur block of Koraput district deserves a standing ovation foradopting the little girl . Some had said that Siba Muduli ofBanapadar had sold his 13 months old girl child to Samabri . But thepoverty stricken living condition of Samabri confirmed that she wasnot in a position to offer anything except the promise to offer alifelong support and love for the childTara Muduli , Siba's wife had died of diarrhea during the recentepidemic in the block . Siba had no one else in the family who couldhave taken care of the little child . He stood near the health campand had expressed his desire to handover the child to someone whocould take the responsibility . Sambari , after giving a look at thechild had decided to take her home .The presence of a little crying child in the house had given a newmeaning to the lonely life of Sambari . There was no one to supporther at that age and her only hope , the old age pension was notreaching home for the last four years . it was stopped for unknownreasons , she said .She was grateful to Purna Chandra Swain , Secretary of SWAGAT , anNGO from Koraput for his offer of a monthly aid of Rs.100/- fortaking care of the child , she added
