Preparation For Dussehra

Preparation for this year's Dussehra festival of Jeypore inKoraput district began by performing rituals at Bhagavati templetoday . Members of Jeypore Sarbajanina Dussehra Mahotsav Committee hadleft for Umerkote to offer the first invitation of the festival toGoddess Pendrani . As a matter of tradition about 70 deities areinvited from far and wide to take part in the Aparajita Puja to beheld from the 9th to 16th day of the amin festival and today's wasthe first in the row. Dussehra festival of Jeypore bears thesignificance for being treated as next to that of Mysore by thetourists since generations.

Meeting on NREGA

A meeting to create awareness on NREGA and RTI was organised
at Mahadeiput panchayat head quarter in Koraput block today . Markand
Padhi , the PEO attending as the chief guest asked the people not to
handover their job cards to anyone so as to avoid any possible
tampering by the VLL or other officials . Surendra Masti , President
of Koraput District Banabasi Sangh highlighted on the need of
people's participation in the village meetings .Pravakar Adhikari ,
Secretary of PRAGATI also spoke .A rally was taken out from Liti
Maliguda to Mahadeiput .

Rebirth of A Director

"Remo" the play on tribal way of life has changed the course
of life of Jogendra Mahanty , its director. Long before the play could
win four prizes to its credit in the National Level Drama Festival
at Agra , it had began to cast its effect on bringing back the much
sought after stage director of the region from a long exile .

Jogendra ,popularly known as Munu among the art lovers of Koraput ,
had given direction in more than 30 stage plays before getting
hospitalized with a near to paralyzing condition . The struggle for
the next five years was too hard , he said . A director who had
controlled the movements of scores of artists on the stage , had to
obey the direction of family members like an actor himself while the
sour pills had shown the signs of his coming back to normalcy.

The call given by friends from Koraput Cultural Society to be the
director of their latest play Remo , had given the real boost ,
Krushna Chandra Nishanko , District Culture officer of Koraput said.
Jogendra was not finding himself in his fullest capabilities to speak
. He was stammering . But his friends had faith on him. He could
change the fate of the play and also to himself, he added .

The director had taken a rebirth . With each word he had to utter to
check the wrong progress of the play he spoke . To pull back the
artist from acting without spirit he was spirited to stand . He cried
and shouted making large noise in the rehearsal to bring unending
smiles in all the artists who were back with record breaking prizes .
He was adjudged as the best director in the festival

Koraput Arms in Tamilnadu

The arms seized by Tamilnadu police in Marugumalm forest
range under Periakulam police limits in June this year belongs to
Koraput . Two police officers from Koraput confirmed this at the
district head quarter after their return from Tamilnadu today .
According to Superintendent of Police U.Rama Rao, these arms were
looted by the naxals from the district armory at Koraput in 2004 .
The arms had the fKO mark on them which confirmed their Koraput
origin . Sundar Murty, a top cader Maoist leader was also arrested
by Tamilnadu police in this connection and will be brought to Koraput
along with the reovered arms after completing the legal formalities ,
Mr.Rao said.

Thanks for constantly bringing out social issues related to the koraput dstrict and the concern for the people of the region. Yes, we should focus more on the social isues like literacy and health for the realisation of our goals of economic and social growth of the nation. Uunless the people of the remote villages get two sqaure meals a day and minimum of health and education, How can we say that we are on the path of progress. As Gandhiji has rightly said that India lives in villages. We have to ensure that the benefits of development must reach the oppressed and downtroden section of the society.

Little Scientist From Koraput

KORAPUT: Spending a sum of Rs12/- on a project could generate
vibration worth 12 Million Dollars in the field of communication by a
child from Koraput . The award winning project presented by Aslam
Baig of Kendriya Vidyalaya of Koraput at the National Level Science
Exhibition held at the IIT , Kharagpur brought laurels for the state
.The innovative project titled "Application of Principles of Simillar
triangles in the field of Communication" was adjudged as the best
project of all the entries in the Innovative Projects in Mathematical
Model category , C.Aliveni , Principal of the school said.

Aslam , working on the idea given by , V.Vijaylaxmi , his mathematics
teacher in the school , had developed the project with the support
from the school . He had used only four drawing sheets costing only
Rs.12/- against spending thousands by other participants, which
was also one of the center of attraction added to the way he had
presented it before the jury , Aslam said. The jury comprising of
eminent professors from the IIT were also convinced on the
possibility of bringing revolution in the field of communication with
the application of the ideas presented in the project, he added.

The project had described the methods of using theorems on
properties of similar triangles to bring an optimum signal strength
in providing communication through mobile phones . The project if
implemented could bring down the cost on infrastructure and the call
charges , he said .

The little scientist who is also a good poet and orator gives the
credit to his teacher and the school for his success . Even though he
being in StdXI , aims to be a doctor in future the love for
mathematics would not die for the scope of its application in the life
, he added. He is the inspiration for other children in the school and
had become the ambassador to spread the interest on mathematics among
the children , the Principal said with pride .
Vijaylaxmi , his mathematics teacher was equally proud of Aslam for
bringing the real implications of the project into the front as she
had derived this idea for her son . But looking at the keen interest
in Aslam for the preparation and presentation , he was given it,
Vjaylaxmi added .

WIO will try to compile all collected and analyzed information into a systematic report on climate change in Orissa which will be prepared with complete support of people, researchers, experts and other concerned stakeholders.

This is a massive campaign and simply impossible to succeed without support of almost everyone concerned for the cause. WIO has requested people from within the state to write back or inform WIO about their experiences and observations of impacts seen around their environment that they feel are due to climate change. These could include changed behavior of animals, birds, plants and almost anything. We have also appealed people to suggest actions to combat climate change. WIO plans to cover at least five thousand people in this survey and compile these into a 'first of its kind' report on climate change in Orissa.

To make this gigantic task a real success, we need cooperation and support of all of you who are reading this mail.

Literacy in Koraput

KORAPUT: Neither International Literacy Day observed on Saturday northe Total Literacy Campaign(TLC) or the Post Literacy Programme(PLP)had no meaning for Moti Kirsani of Ganjeipadar village in BadaKerenga panchayat of Koraput block. She could not find the reason forlearning her signature , as she was yet to get an opportunity evento put her thumb impression on some document . In her 80 years'life in the village she had seen some people putting their thumbimpression on some thing or the other and had a strong desire to puthers all these years. But without a job card , rice card , BPL cardor old age pension in her hand there was no opportunity for her toput her signature or thumb impression , she said .However for Bati Badnayak , president of Maa Mangala SHG in thevillage the story has changed now .Just one month back she wasequally ignorant on the knowledge of letters and the kingdom of words. But now She can put her signature and recognize some words . Thanksto her son Sadhu Badnayak who reads in Std.IV at the village school. Sadhu has been teaching her for the last one month and has a hopethat within next few months she could read books and maintain accountbooks of her SHG .But everyone in the village do not have Sadhu as sons , she added.Even though many of the villagers had learnt to put their signatureover the years , it was difficult for them to come out of the habitof putting thumb impressions , she said . Most of the villagerspreferred to put their thumb impression for the fear of losing theirsignature to some one else , she added .While stories like this continue to hit the stands all over the
yet another Literacy Day at Koraput on Saturday with statistics of successes and challenges in their hand . According to the official sources a total of 1.8 Lakh learners were turned literate in district to cross TLC and PLP to enter the Continued Education Programme(CEP) by spending Rs.5 Cr. over the last 15 years since its beginning in 1993 . If granted , the mission will carry out CEP with its 219 centers in the district , official sources said.

5TH September-2007

1. It’s a story from Tansen’s story published in Sambad. Some people wanted to eliminate Tansen and had asked him to sing Raag Deepak , where the singer dies after singing in the fire it creates with the fire . learning this from Tansen , his daughter started learning Rag malhar. On the day of testing while Tansen was successful in lighting all the lamps of the kingdom with the Raga , he himself was feeling the burn in him .his daughter and her friend started singing Megha malhar raga creating Rain and saving her father .
Point of Learning: True learning can save the world from the evils.

2. In the letters to the Editor in Sambad , Nirmal Kumar Rana from Boudh has rightly pointed out that education is not for coring high numbers in the examination . Congrats to him . I have written a post card to him today .
3. The news on how a young boy in his teens Bhaskar usgaonkar, who was encouraged to create something new , made a new device . He has developed a system where the mobile phone is charged while riding a bicycle . Congratulations to him and his father for the right education .
4. Laxman Rao is a different man in Delhi . He is a roadside tea seller . he spends a aprt of his earnings in buying books . he has already written 18 books . he writes while waiting for the costumer . A great way to live a quality life.
