Summary of " Who Killed Urdu"-Article by Khuswant Singh in Covert

The Fate of Urdu was decided in two neighbouring countries on consecutive days;in pakistan on 14th August 1947 and in India the following day,15 August . With these few words Khuswant Singh the writer in his article published in Covert has tried to bring the history of Urdu in the land before partition . While Urdu was accorded a status in India it had no region to call its own and pakistan suceeded in mking urdu its national language. india had to find its way between Hindi and Urdu while struggling hard to press hindi for national language facing the pressure from the southern languages opposing to acept the move . however bollywood has been able to keep the language alive and the language was also lived in the most quoted language in parliamentary debates . The author sums up with the words from the poet Rashid who had said; rashid has but one prayer to god, If he writes his will in Urdu , hgis son should read it . While the writer took Urdu as an example , the similar situation could be seen in many other Indian languages . Thanks to the invasion of English into the heart and mind of people deep enough while ignoring the importance of their own languge .
